What to bring to HiSET?

Preparing for the HiSET exam includes not only studying but also knowing what to bring on test day. Bringing the right items ensures a smooth testing experience and avoids unnecessary stress.

1. Valid Identification:
You must bring a valid, government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, or state ID. The name on your ID must match the name you used to register for the HiSET. Without proper ID, you will not be allowed to test.

2. Admission Ticket/Confirmation:
Some testing centers require you to show your HiSET admission ticket or registration confirmation. Print a copy or have it available on your phone, depending on the center’s instructions.

3. Approved Calculator:
For the mathematics portion, you may use an on-screen calculator provided by the HiSET computer system. Some centers may allow a basic four-function calculator, but check the rules beforehand. Personal graphing calculators or scientific calculators are generally not allowed.

4. Writing Materials:
Bring a few pencils and a highlighter if permitted, along with an eraser. While the exam is computer-based, some centers provide scratch paper.

5. Snacks and Water:
You may want to bring a small snack and water for breaks, as these can help maintain energy and focus. However, food and drinks are typically not allowed in the testing room, so plan to consume them during scheduled breaks.

6. Personal Comfort Items:
Dress in layers to stay comfortable, as testing rooms can vary in temperature. Some test-takers also bring a sweater or light jacket.

7. Optional Items:
Glasses, hearing aids, or other personal necessities should also be brought to ensure a comfortable testing experience.

Tips:
Arrive early to allow time for check-in, and double-check your testing center’s specific rules. Avoid bringing prohibited items like cell phones, notes, or electronic devices into the exam room.

By bringing the correct items and preparing ahead of time, you can focus on doing your best on the HiSET exam.
