Online proctored exams allow candidates to take a test remotely while being monitored to ensure exam integrity.
The process typically involves:
- Preparation: The candidate ensures they have a reliable computer, webcam, microphone, and a stable internet connection in a quiet, private room.
- Identity Verification: Before the exam, the candidate presents a photo ID to the webcam, which the proctor (human or AI software) verifies against the registration details. A 360-degree room scan using the webcam may also be required.
- Monitoring: Specialized software is installed to lock down the browser, preventing access to other applications, websites, or taking screenshots.
- Supervision: During the exam, the candidate is monitored in real-time by a live human proctor, or recorded and monitored by AI software, which tracks:
- Webcam video and audio (face, eye movement, sound).
- Computer screen activity (to ensure no unauthorized resources are used).
- Intervention/Review: Any suspicious behavior is flagged. A live proctor may intervene via chat, or a recording is reviewed later to determine if a violation occurred, which can lead to disqualification.
